Before You Begin
Have the following information ready before you start the activation process:
- Your insurance card (physical or from your welcome kit)
- Your member ID (also called a subscriber ID)
- Your date of birth
- Your zip code
- An active email address you can access right now
Activation Steps

Visit activate.uhc.com
Open a web browser and go to the official UnitedHealthcare activation portal at https://activate.uhc.com. Make sure you’re on the correct site before entering any personal information.

Enter your member ID
Locate your member ID on the front of your insurance card or in your welcome letter — it may also be labeled as a subscriber ID. Enter it exactly as it appears, without spaces or dashes unless prompted.

Verify your identity
Provide your date of birth and zip code to confirm your identity. This step ensures that only you can activate your plan and access your personal health information.

Create or link your HealthSafe ID
Set up your HealthSafe ID by choosing a unique username and a secure password. Your HealthSafe ID is the single set of credentials you’ll use to sign in to your member portal going forward. If you already have a HealthSafe ID from a previous UHC plan, you can link it here instead of creating a new one.

Access your member portal
After activation is complete, you’ll be automatically directed to the correct member portal for your plan type. Bookmark this page for easy access in the future.
After Activation
Once your plan is activated, your online member account gives you access to:- Digital ID card — view, download, or share your insurance card immediately
- Benefits summary — review your coverage details, deductibles, and copays
- Claims history — track submitted claims and see their current status
- Provider search — find in-network doctors, specialists, and facilities near you
